The Board of Directors also noted the exceptional dedication and volunteer
service of retiring members Gloria Echols; J. Kenneth Jones, who served
as the Foundation’s first Treasurer; and Michael Seidner, MD.
Since the Foundation was formed in January 2002, this is the first
time that the Foundation’s leadership has changed. In keeping
with its articles of incorporation and By-Laws, the Foundation sought
to further diversify its board membership seeking greater representation
of community leaders and grantees. Through a series of meetings and
discussions with community organizations and leaders, the Foundation
identified twenty individuals representative of its supported communities
and the non-profit organizations likely to receive funding support.
Board members serve without compensation and are required to actively
participate in governance and grantmaking activities. As community volunteers,
board members are expected to be knowledgeable about their community
and willing to participate in meetings, committee work and with supported
organizations.
