Foundation Provides Funding to Expand Services for Under- and Uninsured
for North Penn Community Residents
The North Penn Community Health Foundation Board of Directors is pleased
to announce that it awarded three grants, totaling $ to local health and human
service non-profit organizations providing healthcare services to under- and
uninsured residents of the Greater North Penn community.
Grants were provided to:
North Penn Visiting Nurse Association, Children’s Clinic
- $35,000 in support to expand existing services provided to children and
adolescents. The VNA’s Children’s Clinic is a pediatric primary
care health center. It provides low-cost or free care to children who do
not have health insurance or whose insurance makes traditional pediatric
office visits cost-prohibitive. The VNA presently operates three days each
week. This grant will support an expansion of hours offering more than 700
additional clinical hours. These additional hours will help to serve more
patients while reducing the appointment waiting time that is presently nearly
two weeks. Grant funds will also be used to hire a medical social worker.
With a growing non-English speaking patient population, the medical social
worker will assist families to navigate the complexities of medical assistance
and other supportive programs.
The Free Clinic of Doylestown - $15,000 in grant support
was provided to expand clinical services to families and children. Grant
funds will be used to hire a part-time Medical Director and a family certified
nurse practitioner. The medical director will help to ensure continued access
to quality care through the timely review of clinical charts and consultation
with over 150 volunteer medical and dental professionals who care for patients.
A part-time family nurse practitioner will be added to the staff to provide
healthcare services to both adults and children. The Free Clinic of Doylestown
provides no-cost clinical and oral health services to more than 900 patients
annually of which nearly 20% are children.
HealthLink - $30,000 in support to expand clinical services
by providing twelve additional hours of clinical services on a weekly basis
and to expand access to dental hygiene services. HealthLink provides primary
and oral health services to uninsured working adults in Bucks and Montgomery
Counties. Presently, HealthLink has more than 700 active dental patients.
With grant support, more than 600 additional hours of hygienist services
will be available affording the majority of patients with access to prophylactic
care twice annually, as recommended by the American Dental Association.
Grant funds will also help to offer four additional evening hour appointments
each week that are needed by many patients who cannot afford to leave work
during the day.
